Why Dance?

Tell us why do or did you do this or why are making this sacrifice to minister in dance? Speak from your heart. Is it for yourself, is it for exercise, is it to be seen, is it for God, why?

  1. Praise dance was a 'gradual rush' for me.

One of the first times I witnessed its power was about six years ago when I watched as a group of young girls from the King Solomon M.B. Church in Metcalfe, Miss., minister (even before I knew what that word was) — I just wanted them to watch them continue dancing, continue dancing, continue dancing . . .

Once I returned back home, I started to research this topic and eventually visited another church that had just started an adult women's praise dance ministry in my hometown.

I was smitten, but it would still be four years before I actually got up enough courage to commit to joining the praise dance ministry at my home church.

I think praise dance, worship dance, is a powerful medium for communicating the heart of God — a worship art form that I'm still in my infancy in learning about.

I remember once before I started ministering publicly, I was dancing (mostly, to myself) in my sister's kitchen to Donnie McClurkin's "We Fall Down." Another relative, who was going through a spiritually dry time in his life said, almost to himself, 'I never knew that's what that song was saying.'

It was almost as if on some 'other' level, a deep spiritual truth about that song had prevailed and managed to reach him through his bondage.

Today, I dance for Him and to used by Him — Him being Our Father in Heaven.

God bless, you, Sis. Rachel, and thank you for this blog!

P.S.: Your book — and CD — are (yes, I still refer to them) such a blessing!
